Interview with Kylie Francis: Kyfra Social Media Marketing + Consulting

Learn the secrets of this self-taught social media entrepreneur who expands her business, and her clients’, by leveraging every opportunity that crosses her path.

Kylie Francis, founder and CEO of Kyfra Social Media Marketing + Consulting, was a young college student when the blogging bug bit her. While studying for her business degree, Francis started posting on Pinterest, Tumblr and Instagram, establishing an online presence from her dorm room. She spent the next eight years learning the ropes of social media. And through trial and error, she managed to bring in six figures a year and secure over 111,000 loyal followers.

Although she happily passed on the tricks she learned to anyone who asked, covering hashtag usage, photography and the best platforms for specific topics, the idea of helping other businesses expand online and increase their followings wasn’t on her radar. But then one morning, after boarding a plane, she started a conversation with her seatmate that changed the trajectory of her career.

“I was on a 6 a.m. flight to Miami for my birthday when I connected with a CEO sitting next to me who asked me for my help, professionally, to help his wife’s skincare business. She was struggling with social media, wondering how to get customers off of social media and how to utilize it to its fullest potential without wasting time.”

That early-morning conversation sparked a passion and an idea. And Kyfra Social Media Marketing + Consulting was born shortly after Francis’ Miami birthday celebration.

Her shift from blogging to consulting required that she leverage her current following and success to draw in clients. She primarily focused on entrepreneurs who worked online, but she strived to expand into other niches. Today, her reach is much wider: “I serve personal brands, bloggers, CEOs and companies looking to fine-tune their social media.”

Francis’ former life as a blogger, along with her business degree, gave her quite the leg up. She had the industry knowledge necessary to work with entrepreneurs and small businesses. And, proof that she was capable of expanding businesses and social media followings. She explains, “It is rare to find a social media consulting company that is led by someone who is an expert in all fields of social media and has grown an organic following for themselves.”

Since that fateful plane ride to Miami, Francis has developed several social media courses all while working one-on-one with entrepreneurs from all over the world. She also runs a large Facebook group dedicated to social media marketing and is working to develop more courses in the future, including master classes.

How did Francis manage to launch two wildly successful businesses in less than a decade? By refusing to let opportunities slip through her fingers and relishing in the excitement of switching things up. “I learned to always have an open mind and to always be ready for change. You cannot stay stuck in a similar pattern or routine and expect your business to grow. You have to be ready for anything and be willing to go forth with any opportunity that comes your way.”
